Can HRV completely remove mold from a building?

HRV cannot directly eliminate the mold that has already grown in the building. It can only continuously improve indoor ventilation, reduce humidity, disrupt the humid environment that is conducive to mold growth, and prevent the mold from continuing to multiply and spread.

 

Will HRV stop condensation on windows immediately?

It won’t take effect immediately. When the device is first turned on, it can only alleviate the accumulation of moisture. Window condensation is formed by a combination of long-term high humidity and temperature differences. The HRV needs to run continuously for several hours to several days to gradually reduce the overall humidity of the entire house, and then the water on the glass can be gradually eliminated.

What indoor humidity level is usually better for reducing mold risk?

To significantly reduce the risk of mold growth, it is recommended to keep the indoor relative humidity stable between 40% and 60%. If it remains above 60% for a long time, it is highly likely to cause mold growth and wall dampness. And if it is below 40%, the air will be too dry.

In a regular living environment, you need to remove the filter and rinse it with clean water every 1-2 months. Replace the filter with a new one every 6-12 months. In areas with more dust and debris, the cleaning cycle is shortened to 2-4 weeks, and the filter should be replaced every 3-6 months.

What happens if HRV airflow is too low?

The ventilation and dehumidification capabilities have significantly declined. The indoor moisture cannot be promptly discharged, resulting in repeated occurrences of window condensation, wall corner dampness, and mold problems. At the same time, carbon dioxide and unpleasant odors accumulate indoors, making the air murky. Is wall-mounted HRV easier to install than ducted HRV?

Yes. Installing a wall-mounted non-pipeline HRV only requires making holes in the wall to connect to the outside. Its construction period is short and it is suitable for old house renovations, apartments, and hotel single rooms. The pipeline-based central HRV requires the installation of a complete ventilation system, which is more complex and is more suitable for new home construction and large commercial spaces.
