What is an Inline Axial Fan

Aosun’s inline axial fan is a duct-mounted ventilation unit designed to move air. With its axial blade design, air flows quickly along the fan’s axis, delivering high airflow with low energy use and steady performance. It can also improve air circulation, help lower temperatures, and remove exhaust gases with ease. Therefore, it is very suitable for sites that demand continuous operation. By choosing an inline axial fan, you secure a reliable, cost-effective ventilation system that keeps your project running smoothly.
Advantages of Inline Axial Fans

High Airflow Capacity
Ordinary fans often fail to deliver enough airflow, leaving workshops with poor circulation, unstable temperature and humidity, and even reduced equipment efficiency. Our inline axial fan solves this with powerful airflow output that moves and recycles large volumes of air while keeping low energy consumption. Besides, it keeps ventilation smooth across wide spaces, whether you need strong exhaust or a consistent fresh air supply. This means your production line won’t stall due to poor air quality, and your staff will work in a more comfortable environment, and product quality remains steady.
Lower Noise Operation
One of the biggest concerns when choosing a fan is noise, especially in workplaces where quiet is essential. Traditional fans running for long hours often generate noticeable sound, which distracts employees and lowers the overall work comfort. However, our inline axial fan is built with optimized blade design and noise-reduction features, keeping its operation much quieter than normal fans. Even during extended use, it runs smoothly and with minimal sound. This helps you maintain a calm, comfortable workspace while avoiding noise complaints or disputes from the surrounding area.
Flexible Installation
In practical implementation, you may face a common challenge: limited space for installation and complex duct layouts. Regular fans can be difficult to fit, which drives up both construction costs and timelines. Our inline axial fan is designed to deal with this problem.
Due to its compact structure and flexible mounting options, it can be placed at different angles and positions, making it easy to integrate into various duct systems. As a result, whether you need powerful exhaust in an industrial plant or support for central air conditioning in a commercial building, it adapts quickly. Moreover, installation is straightforward and requires no major changes to existing ducts, which greatly reduces effort and expenses.
When you choose our inline axial fan, you will speed up project progress, cut installation costs, and keep your ventilation system running reliably. And it’s the best solution when space is tight.
Customizable and Cost-Effective
Every business has different ventilation needs. Some require very high airflow, others need specific sizes to match duct systems, and many want energy-saving solutions to cut long-term costs. Fortunately, our inline axial fan can be customized in multiple ways. You can choose dimensions, airflow, power, and extra features based on your actual project. At the same time, our design will pay much attention to efficiency and durability. So, it can offer you strong performance while keeping energy use and maintenance costs low. With this fan, you save money and avoid unnecessary hassle.
Dependable and Reliable
The stability and lifespan of your equipment matter most. If a fan breaks down too often, you will face higher maintenance costs, production delays, and even downtime losses. Our inline axial fan is constructed with premium materials and precise manufacturing, delivering you long-term reliability and durability.
What’s more, each unit is tested under strict international standards such as RoHS, CE, and SAA. It performs consistently even in high heat, humidity, or during continuous operation without losing efficiency. Most importantly, we provide full after-sales support, so you can run your projects with complete peace of mind.
Applications of Inline Axial Fans

Industrial
Our inline axial fan delivers a powerful airflow of 500 to 50,000 m³/h. The exact figure depends on the model you choose and the requirements of your application. It quickly removes hot air and harmful gases from your workshop while bringing in fresh air. This creates a safer and more comfortable environment for your team.
Meanwhile, it runs with high energy efficiency, so even during long hours of operation, your power costs are under control. Furthermore, installation is also flexible. You can place the fan at different points in the duct system to match your production line layout without disrupting your existing setup. With this reliable, efficient, and energy-saving solution, your plant can maintain stable air circulation, protect employee health, and keep production moving stably.
Agriculture
In agriculture, especially in greenhouses and livestock farms, proper ventilation and temperature control are important for healthy growth. Without good airflow, excess moisture and heat will gradually accumulate, leading to bacteria, diseases, and costly losses.
You don’t need to worry too much. Our inline axial fan enables keeping the air moving, removing humidity and stale air while creating a fresher environment. Compared with traditional systems, it offers higher efficiency and quieter operation, so it won’t disturb daily work.
In short, choosing Aosun’s inline axial fan adds a layer of protection to your business, making both planting and farming more productive and secure.
Commercial Building
Inline axial fans are widely used in commercial buildings, shopping malls, and office towers. Thanks to their axial design, they deliver high airflow while keeping noise levels low, which is critical in busy areas. They help move air across floors and different zones, preventing stagnant air and temperature imbalance. If you need consistent air circulation for a comfortable workplace, this fan gives you a cost-effective and low-maintenance solution.
Public Facility
In places like subway stations, airports, stadiums, and hospitals, large crowds make the air stuffy and can even raise safety concerns. Without effective ventilation, not only will the comfort level decline, but the risk of airborne transmission will also increase.
Our inline axial fan addresses this with strong airflow and dependable performance. It ensures fresh air is constantly supplied while exhaust and odors are quickly removed. Even under continuous use, it remains reliable and helps you lower your equipment maintenance costs.
Airflow is the primary indicator for model selection, usually measured in cubic meters per hour (m³/h) or cubic feet per minute (CFM). There are two key factors in calculating airflow:
* Room volume: Length × Width × Height.
* Air changes per hour: National standards provide recommended values based on the air quality requirements of different locations.
* Bathroom/Bathroom: Recommended 8-12 times/hour (due to high humidity and the need for rapid odor removal).
* Kitchen: Recommended 10-15 times/hour (needs to quickly remove grease and moisture).
* Basement/Storage Room: Recommended 3-6 times/hour (primarily for maintaining air circulation and preventing mold).
Required airflow (m³/h) = Room volume (m³) × Target air changes per hour.
It is recommended to choose a model with an airflow slightly larger than the calculated value (e.g., 150-180 m³/h) to compensate for duct losses.
Static pressure can be understood as the “thrust” or “suction” that a fan exerts to overcome duct resistance. The unit is Pascal (Pa).
Why it’s important: Air encounters resistance when flowing through ducts (duct wall friction, bends, dampers, insect screens, check valves, etc.). Insufficient static pressure causes a significant decrease in airflow due to these resistances, resulting in poor performance.
How to choose:
Short straight ducts (<3 meters, 1-2 bends): Low static pressure is sufficient (e.g., 15-30 Pa).
Longer or complex ducts (>5 meters, multiple bends, with filters): Require medium to high static pressure (e.g., 50-150 Pa or higher).
Ductwork Requirements: Prioritize rigid PVC pipes with smooth inner walls or spiral silencers, as they have low air resistance and low noise.
If using flexible hoses, keep them as straight as possible, avoiding excessive compression or bending, which will greatly increase air resistance and noise.
The duct diameter must match the fan interface diameter. Use dedicated reducing couplings at diameter changes and ensure proper sealing.
Installation Direction: Inline axial fan fans are typically designed for horizontal, vertical, or arbitrary angle installation, supported by their motor and bearing structures. This is a significant advantage over some specialized fans. However, during installation, ensure the fan is securely fixed to avoid additional noise caused by gravity or vibration.
It is recommended to install it near the exhaust outlet (i.e., the “exhaust side”). When the inline axial fan draws air outward at the end of the duct, a negative pressure is created inside the entire duct, and air is drawn in evenly from the air inlet. This method is efficient, and the inline axial fan draws in air that has been “processed” by the duct, resulting in smoother operation.
Installation at the air inlet (“supply side”) is not recommended because this forces the fan directly into the duct, easily creating turbulence and increasing resistance. Furthermore, the inline axial fan motor may come into direct contact with humid or oily air (unfavorable in kitchen and bathroom environments).
Sudden increases in noise and vibration are common problems. Troubleshoot in the following order:
* Loose Installation: Check the inline axial fan body and mounting brackets for tightness, and check for loose pipe connections. This is the most common cause.
* Foreign Object Intrusion: Check the inline axial fan blades and pipes for debris (such as leaves, plastic bags, or insulation) that could be trapped and cause imbalance.
* Bearing Wear: After prolonged use, the motor bearings may lack lubrication or wear. This manifests as a continuous “humming” or “clattering” metallic friction sound. This is a major mechanical fault and requires replacing the bearings or the entire fan.
* Blade Accumulation: Uneven adhesion of kitchen grease or dust to the blades can cause unbalanced vibration. Disconnect the power and clean the blades.
* Resonance: The inline axial fan’s operating frequency coincides with the frequency of the pipes or building. Try slightly changing the fan speed (if a speed controller is available) or adding rubber damping pads between the fan and the mounting bracket.
Greenhouse environments place special demands on fans:
High waterproof and moisture-proof rating: A high IP rating (at least IP44) must be selected to withstand continuous high humidity and potential water splashes.
Corrosion resistance: Plastic casings are more resistant to moisture and fertilizer vapor corrosion than ordinary metal casings.
Continuous operation capability: Ensure the product is labeled for “continuous operation (S1 duty cycle),” not just intermittent use. Greenhouse ventilation requires 24-hour uninterrupted operation.
Airflow regulation: Use with a temperature and humidity controller and speed regulator to achieve automatic variable frequency ventilation, saving energy and optimizing the plant growth environment.
Installation location: Avoid directing the inline axial fan at the plants; air should circulate evenly within the space through ductwork.
Not turning at all (but may make a humming sound):Capacitor failure: This is the most common problem with single-phase capacitor motors. The capacitor provides the phase difference for motor starting; if it’s damaged, the motor won’t start. Try replacing it with the same model starting capacitor; this is a relatively simple DIY repair.
Motor burnt out:If it still doesn’t turn after replacing the capacitor, or if you smell a burnt odor, the motor coils may be burnt out. The entire motor needs to be replaced.
Power supply problem:Check the switch and wiring for power.
Very slow speed:
Capacitor capacity decay:An aging capacitor results in insufficient starting torque, preventing the speed from increasing. Replacing the capacitor is also recommended.
Severely stuck bearing: Lubrication failure causes extreme rotational resistance.
Low voltage: Check if your household voltage is normal.
Safety advice:Replacing the capacitor is an extreme operation if you lack electrical knowledge. For other repairs involving the internal components of the motor, it is strongly recommended to have a professional handle it or replace the entire motor.
Plastic Casing (usually PP or ABS):
Advantages: Lightweight, low cost, good insulation, resistant to moisture and general chemical corrosion (such as bathroom moisture, weakly acidic environments). Relatively low operating noise.
Disadvantages: Poor heat resistance and long-term sunlight exposure; mechanical strength is lower than metal.
Suitable Scenarios: First choice for home decoration, especially suitable for bathrooms, ordinary kitchens, and indoor ventilation.
Metal Casing (usually galvanized steel or aluminum alloy):
Advantages: Sturdy structure, heat resistance, good fire resistance, strong resistance to physical impact, long lifespan.
Disadvantages: Heavier, higher cost; rust prevention is necessary in humid environments (high-quality products have coating treatment).
Suitable Scenarios: Industrial, commercial, kitchen exhaust (high temperature), garage, outdoor installation, or places with extreme durability requirements.
For most home users, a plastic casing is a more economical and practical choice.
